What is ECU Remapping?

Your vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) controls fuelling, ignition timing, boost pressure, torque limits and more. Manufacturers set conservative “one-map-fits-all” calibrations for global climates, fuel qualities and servicing routines.

Remapping is the precise recalibration of these tables to release performance within safe limits for a healthy, well-maintained engine.

Typical ECU results (Stage 1 on a healthy, stock vehicle):

• Power & torque increase: noticeably stronger mid-range and overtaking performance

• Sharper throttle response: reduced lag, more linear delivery

• Wider torque band: fewer gear changes, easier towing and hill work

• Potential MPG gains: especially on turbo-diesels during steady cruising

We do not push “peak numbers”; we optimise usable torque and drivability while keeping factory safety strategies and knock/EGT margins intact.

What is TCU / Gearbox Remapping?

Modern automatics (DSG, ZF, 7G/9G, Aisin, etc.) use a Transmission Control Unit (TCU) to manage shift timing, line pressure, torque limits and launch behaviour.
TCU remapping complements the ECU calibration so the gearbox can use the engine’s additional torque confidently and smoothly.

Common TCU enhancements (platform-dependent):

• Raised torque limiters to prevent unnecessary upshifts or torque clipping

• Faster, crisper shifts with refined line pressures

• Smarter shift points (sport/normal modes) for real-world pace without hunting

• Enhanced manual mode with improved upshift/downshift logic 

• Launch/creep refinement for smoother starts and better traction​

Our Process

1. Pre-check & diagnostics– full diagnosis vehicle health scan, using garage quality diagnostic tools. 

2. Read ECU/TCU – Using industry-grade tools (Auto Tuner, Kess, Flex). This will either be a OBD read via the OBD port,  a BENCH Read (Normally done by removing ECU from the vehicle and pinning directly to the pins on the ECU, sometimes this is done in place when the ECU is difficult to be removed but the pins can still be accessed) or in some rare cases we may have to BOOT read (removing the ECU from the vehicle, opening up the ECU and probing directly to points on the ECU circuit board) 

3. Calibration – Stage or map modification built for your vehicle, fuel and use-case (road, tow, light track).

4. Programming & adaptation – safe write procedure, gearbox adaptations where required.

5. Post-check & diagnostics

6. Road test  - Check programming and to hear your feedback

7. Aftercare – map file backup, revert-to-stock option, and support.

Safety & Reliability

• Factory protections retained: knock control, EGT limits, torque monitoring and limp strategies remain active.

• Hardware checks: we recommend resolving boost leaks, tired coils/injectors, clogged DPFs or failing turbos before tuning.

• Turbo-petrol (TSI/TFSI/EcoBoost/etc.): strong mid-range, reduced lag, flexible powerband.

• Turbo-diesel (TDI/dCi/CDTi/etc.): big torque gains, easier towing, improved economy off-boost.

• Stage 2 (supporting hardware): intake/downpipe/Intercooler where applicable, calibrated for hardware.

What to Expect

• Duration: Typically 1hr to 90mins for ECU; depending on platform and read method.

• Fuel: Use quality 97–99 RON for petrol performance vehicles where available.

• Maintenance: Fresh plugs/coils (petrol), clean air filter and up-to-date servicing recommended.
